US758 Never Alone captured first place this year after last winning the regatta in 2016. The winning crew consisted of owners Paul and Ross Nuechterlein joined by Ron Sherry, Ken Swetka and Roy Lamphier. This group sailed an outstanding series winning two of four races. No other boat was able to take a first in more than one race. Never Alone started strong on day one, capturing the first bullet in light to variable wind.
Three races were held on day 2 with Never Alone taking a bullet on the first race and holding strong with a 5th and 2nd place finish in the remaining two races for the day. Due to inclement weather with threatening storms, day 3 was cancelled. Never Alone was the most consistent boat in the fleet for the two days of racing. Congratulations go out to David Holme and the crew of holmebrew for finishing 2 points behind Never Alone taking a 2nd in the 3rd race and finishing with a bullet in the last race of the regatta. Kudos to Pagen Baby for coming back to finish third overall with 18 points, taking first in race 3 and a second in the final race of the regatta. Rounding out the top 5 was Chickenhawk owned by Mark Pinney in 4th overall and in 5th, just one point behind was Forty-Two owned by the Rozelles. Eighteen Cal-25s participated in this year’s Bayview One Design regatta, making this group the largest one design fleet of the event.
