US758 Never Alone has won two consecutive Bayview One Design championships by winning again this year. Never Alone has captured an unmatched five BOD championships within the super competitive Cal-25 class.
The Cal-25s elected to race Saturday and Sunday instead of the usual Friday through Sunday series (June 4th and 5th) and are planning to keep the two-day format for future BODs in an attempt to generate better participation.
The winning Never Alone crew consisted of the owners Paul & Ross Nuechterlein, along with Ken Swetka and Scot Pfeffer. Nuechterlein’s proved again that consistency wins regattas by scoring an impressive 1, 2, 2 in the three races sailed Saturday.
Saturday’s weather featured light winds with relatively flat water affording the competitors a little more wind with each race conducted. It did take a lengthy postponement before the first race got underway, with the RC doing a great job managing the races and the unpredictable weather.
Unfortunately, Sunday’s weather started off with even less wind than Saturday. Several flotillas formed with the crews mingling and swapping stories. After a couple hours under postponement, the race committee wisely abandoned the races for the day and Saturday’s results became the event results.
