US466 Patriot came out on top of the twelve boat fleet wining one point in front of second place US758 Never Alone. The winning crew consisted of owner John McAllister, his son Andy along with Minh Ha and Justin Verriest. The three-day event, Aug-14 thru Aug-16, provided the Cal-25s light to medium oscillating winds with a couple significant wind shifts throughout the regatta.
Patriot was able to get out in front of the fleet during the first race Friday and increased their lead at each mark winning the first race. David Holme’s US1029 Homebrew took second followed by Chuck Stormes/Karl Kuspa’s US726 Wicked in third place. Wicked took top honors in the second race followed closely by Paul and Ross Nuechterlein’s Never Alone in second place. Rounding out the top three was Adam Hollerbach and Erik Ryan’s US632 Target Practice. A 40+ mph line came through the fleet before getting a third race off and the RC cancelled any further racing for the day. After the first day’s racing, Wicked was in first place with four points followed closely by both Never Alone and Holmebrew tied for second place having 6 pts.
Saturday’s weather provided less wind then the day before with oscillating winds that frustrated many. Patriot was able to take two bullets and a second to win the day and top the fleet on the scoreboard. Never Alone sailed very consistent taking two thirds and a second and was in second place overall at the end of the day. Keith Ziegler’s Thor came roaring back with a second, a third and winning the last race of the day positioning them in third place overall in the standings.
Matt Bounds, Principle Race Officer, did his usual great job running the races making sure the courses were fair and the wind stable enough to run fun and exciting races. Unfortunately, storms and bad weather prevailed Sunday morning and after a lengthy postponement, the decision was made to abandon racing for the day.
Patriot won the regatta with Never Alone closely behind in second. Thor finished one point in front of Wicked and Holmebrew taking third place. Wicked took fourth place beating Holmebrew on a tiebreaker.
With a dozen Cal-25s participating in this year’s Bayview One Design regatta, our class was once again the largest one design fleet of the BOD event.
