2018 CSYC-C Course Jun-16 Recap

The initial weather forecast called for 10 mph breeze which would have presented the fleet with ideal racing conditions. As it turned out the two windward-leeward races started with light winds diminishing to very little wind. We had four Cal-25s coming out and competing in rather interesting/difficult conditions. In fact, most boats after rounding the first mark of the first race had a decent run to the next mark including a couple gybes as expected. Just before the first place boat rounded the leeward mark the wind completed its 180 degree shift. The remainder of the run leg (leeward mark) turned into and upwind sprint and the windward leg turned into a broad reaching leg. Needless to say, the fore-deck crew members had a workout and all crews shared in the excitement.

The second race featured wind shifts and plenty of opportunities to miss long finger puffs scattered over the course – usually vanishing before you could reached them.

Good close racing as usual and our Cal-25 class is demonstrating and becoming known for aggressive starts !!!

Well before the warning gun and the best part of the day was attending my good friend and mentor Ralph Deeds Life Celebration at CSYC. The Deeds family and extended family members, CSYC memebers along with numerous guests were present to honor the memory of longtime CSYC member Ralph Deeds, who passed away in March.

Note, this week’s DRYA race (DBC 6/23) race will be a windward-leeward series instead of point to point as in previous years. DBC/GPC (SI’s) ==> http://drya.org/race2018/SIs/2018%20GPC-DBC%20Regatta%20Program%20post.pdf

The BYC Windward/Leeward regatta scheduled for 6/23 & 6/24 has been cancelled. All those planning to race the BYC WL regatta, let’s try to get on the line for this Saturday’s DRYA race. Moreover, don’t forget to sign up for the next BYC Windward/Leeward regatta 8/18 & 18/19.
