“Forty-two” was previously owned by Fred & Curt Rozelle sailing out of CSYC.
“Forty-two” was purchased in 2003 as “Gypsy” from Jim Bowen in Port Huron. As there was another “Gypsy” in the CSYC harbor, we changed the name to “Forty-two” which as any nerd from the 1980s knows is the answer to life, the universe, and everything.
Jim Bowen did a lot of work on the boat in the late 1990s after buying her from upstate New York with the name “Quiessence”. Much appreciation to Jim and his son Lee Shuckerow for getting us going in the class, including letting us sail with them to close out their 2003 season at PHYC.
The very nice burgundy paint job was replaced by a stealthy grey in the winter of 2009-2010 as a result of a significant collision with a larger boat. Sincere appreciation to Tim Sarns for a great new old boat (prettiest window frames in the fleet), and also to Brian Shenstone, Paul Nuechterlein, John Harper, Don Healy, Rick Schott, and Rick Zanotti for their help in rebuilding her.
Regular crew on “Forty-two” includes Grace Pytell, Alex Simon, Frank Furest, various other Pytells, miscellaneous Romers, and whoever else wants to eat chicken tenders, Pringles, and double stuf Oreos. Past crew is too numerous to mention and includes Paul Nuechterlein (to whom we will be forever grateful for his coaching and guidance), Ross Nuechterlein, and Patrick Cazabon, now competing with their own boats in our growing Detroit fleet.
